Burgenland Wine from Leithaberg Alps

Perfect Pairing, Tradition Burgenland Wine

The warm slopes of Leithaberg shell limestone, slate, and Lake Neusiedl create ideal conditions for grape varieties like Blaufränkisch, Welschriesling, Chardonnay, and Merlot. Our motto is to work organically, sustainably, and in harmony with nature, bringing the uniqueflavor of Leithaberg into every bottle.

It is quite understandable that it was not difficult for Johannes to take over his parents’ business. Incidentally, we are now the seventh generation to continue the tradition, but we have had vineyards for much longer. Traditionally, the style is always adapted to the local dishes and so our elegant Leithaberg DAC harmonises perfectly with traditional dishes such as goulash and pörkölt.

But what actually makes the Leitha Mountains so special? When the Alps began to rise many millions of years ago, the Leithaberg was also born; a last foothill directly on the border to the Pannonian Plain. This is where the Pannonian climate comes from, which is particularly favourable for viticulture. The balmy hills with plenty of forest offer night-time cooling and create plenty of fruit and elegance.

Lake Neusiedl, a shallow steppe lake, climate regulator and a paradise for bird lovers, ensures that the temperatures never get too extreme and the humidity is always right. And then, until five million years ago, we had a sea on our doorstep, the so-called Lake Pannon, which has left us marvellous limestone. This very young and an active limestone gives our wines that certain something extra, or as we experts say: minerality.

Johannes makes wines that are very typical of the region and natural: the reds with freshness and elegance and the whites with character and minerality. And as already mentioned, this goes perfectly with goulash. And because curry is actually similar to goulash, our wines also go perfectly with curries. And because Bilal and Johannes both like to experiment, they tried and tasted and cooked and sometimes also drank and found the best combinations.

Perfect Pairings: Our Pairings, such as St. Georgen Grüner Veltliner with Jalfrezi, Leithaberg DAC Blaufränkisch with Tikka Masala, and Sauvignon Blanc Privat with Butter Chicken, are crafted to complement both traditional and curry dishes. Come by for a taste and a chat with Johannes and Bilal.
